Pros and Cons of a Moving Service

When you move, you have to think about your belongings and how they will get from your old residence to your new home. Are you going to pack and move the items yourself, or will you hire a moving service?

Pros and Cons of hiring a moving service:

Pro – Less Stress, Insurance Coverages, Less Work, Materials Included

Con- Less Control, Less Flexibility, Impersonal, Costs Money

Pros and Cons of doing it yourself:

Pro – Total Control, Save Money, No Wasted Energy, Your Own Timeline

Cons – Not Insured, Heavy Lifting, Procrastination, You Supply the Materials

This list will help you with, your decision on whether or not you are going to hire a moving company to help you transport your belongings. You have already created a budget and know what you are comfortable spending. Remember to stick to your budget.

Home Inventory Checklist

You know that you are moving, and this is a perfect time to see everything you have accumulated since you started living at the current residence. If you go room by room, it will make it easier on you. Start with the large objects and end with the small. You do not have to note every small item, just the main items of the room. While doing this, consider the things you will no longer need or anything that you have not used in a while.

Downsizing

After the self-inventory, and have noted those you will not need or have not used in a while. Keep these items separate from the ones that you use. The best thing to consider and help offset the costs of moving is having a garage sale. A garage sale will take a little bit of work, but the overall money can help you save room while cutting costs.

If you are not interested in spending the time and effort for a garage sale, you can always donate the items to a local charity that could benefit the less fortunate. When you donate, you can also get a donation form that the values of your donation can be written off on your taxes, once again saving you money.

Pack Up Room by Room

You are ready for packing. You will take everything that you own and cram it snug and tight in a bunch of boxes or totes. The best way to avoid procrastination is to keep emotions out of it. Stay on track by not thinking of memories associated with your belongings.

When you are packing, it will seem like an endless task. To make it go faster, go room by room. You can create an inventory list for each box if you want to be through. It will help you when you are unpacking.

Moving Labels

Moving labels will be a time saver. You, or the movers, will know the exact location of where the boxes are supposed to be placed and unpacked. If you do not want to spend time printing labels or do not want to spend the money, I recommend a marker and tape. You can write directly on the box/tape the contents and the room destination. If you are highly motivated, you could tape an inventory list also to the outside of the box.

Settling in and Making it Your Home

You now have all your possessions in your new residence, and it is time to unpack and make this place home! Your boxes should be in the correct rooms and ready to unload. You would not want someone helping you unpack accidentally get your undergarment box instead of the dishtowels! Thank goodness you labeled each box so you know its proper destination.

Now that you have everything unpacked, you can finally relax. The moving process is complete. Now it is time to throw a Housewarming Party. Suppose you do not know how to do that, no worries. There is a blog for that! Just click here!
